Usage of 离…远 / 近 (lí… yuǎn / jìn)
Meaning: Far from / close to.
Context: States how near or far one place is from another.
Structure:
A + 离 + B + 近 / 远
Note: both places come first and the adjective goes last — 我家离远学校 is wrong; 我家离学校远 is right. 不 and 很 attach to 近 / 远, never to 离.
(His home is not far from the school. / From Text) - •
(My home is very close to the office.) - •
(The bank is not close to the train station.)
Usage of 就 (jiù)
Meaning: Right / exactly — or “and then”.
Context: This passage uses 就 in both of its everyday senses: pinning down a location, and linking one action to the next.
Structure:
就 + 在 + Place | Action A,就 + Action B
Note: either way, 就 stands directly before the predicate. With a place it means right there (就在学校附近); between two actions it means and then straight away (一直走,就到了).
(His home is not far from the school — right nearby. / From Text) - •
(The teacher’s office is right on the third floor.) - •
(As soon as class ends we head to the library.)
