我现在不养宠物,不过小时候养过一只兔子。它的毛白白的,眼睛红红的,耳朵长长的,特别漂亮。它喜欢亲近人,我去哪儿它就去哪儿,累了就在我脚上睡觉。后来它生病死了,我难过了很长时间。这也是我现在不养宠物的原因。

Structure

Usage of 白白的/红红的/长长的

Meaning:

  • This structure is an adjectival structure. Known as the “AA” pattern, it is formed by repeating one syllable (one character) and adding “的 (de).” It often feels like saying “very …” or “so …,” but with a cuter, more emphatic tone to make the description more vivid, lively, or emotional.

Context:

  • This structure is often used in spoken Chinese and written Chinese to describe appearance, feelings, or states in an expressive way. But not all adjectives can be reduplicated like this. It is mostly for adjectives that describe the physical items, such as colors, sizes, and shapes.

Example sentences:

  • 她 的 眼睛 大大 的。
  • Tā de yǎnjīng dàdà de.
  • Her eyes are big.
  • 她 的 大大 的 眼睛 特别 漂亮。
  • Tā de dàdà de yǎnjīng tèbié piàoliang.
  • Her big eyes are very beautiful.

Usage of 就

Meaning:

  • The word “就 (jiù)” means something like “then.” The pattern “A…就(jiù)B…” is used to show that action B happens naturally after action A.

Context:

  • The structure can describe natural results, cause-and-effect relationships, or quick reactions.

Example sentences:

  • 他 最近 太 累 了,就 生病 了。
  • Tā zuìjìn tài lèi le, jiù shēngbìng le.
  • He’s been too tired recently, and then he got sick.
  • 你 说 什么,我 就 听 什么。
  • Nǐ shuō shénme, wǒ jiù tīng shénme.
  • Whatever you say, I will listen to.

Translation

I don’t have a pet now, but I had a rabbit when I was a child. Its hair is white, its eyes are red, and its ears are long, which is very beautiful. It likes to be close to people. It goes wherever I go and sleeps on my feet when I’m tired. Later, he died of illness, and I was sad for a long time. This is also the reason why I don’t have pets now.
